Meditation
Meditation is a way of stilling the mind so as to get in touch with the happiness and calm we all have deep inside us. As the Buddhist writer Gyatso says: “When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and our mind becomes still, deep happiness and contentment arise naturally from within.”

Although many (if not most) religions recommend meditation of one sort or another, it does not need to have any religious connotations and you don’t have to believe in anything to start practising.

We all know what contentment is like and how impossibly fickle it is - no sooner do you realise it’s there than it’s gone. The ultimate aim of meditation is to make it such a habit that it happens all the time.
