Healing
Spiritual, psychic or faith healing, often simply called healing, is the transference of the natural healing power of the universe by one person to another through the hands or through thought and prayer. This natural healing power goes by many names - love, subtle energy, God - and healers themselves come from a variety of religious backgrounds. As the recipient of healing you do not have to believe, but it certainly helps to be open to whatever is happening, to feel positive about it and to want to get better.

Although healing is as old as humankind it was forbidden outside the Christian Church for many centuries and was only permitted again in Britain in 1951. Since then the practice has exploded and in the UK healing is now available on the National Health Service. In the US it is still illegal to heal for money, so healing goes by other names such as ‘therapeutic touch’.

During a healing session you sit or lie fully clothed while the healer places their hands on or just above your body. You may feel heat or cold or tingling, or sleepy or relaxed or nothing. Both mental and physical problems can be helped, and children and animals respond as well or better than adults. Some healers charge for their services and some ask only for donations.

Healing by thought - known as absent or distant healing - can be equally effective and many healers have lists of people to whom they send absent healing.
