Creative Therapies
The creative therapies of drama, music and art are state registered with the Health Professions Council and provide psychotherapeutic interventions through engaging with the art form. An enormous benefit of the arts therapies is that clients can work non-verbally and through metaphors, either through stories, puppets, role work, art making or a piece of music. Sometimes when we are very low we do not have the words to express the intensity or complexity of feeling being experienced or we may not even know what it is that is affecting us so much. Through the art form and working at the point of creativity and spontaneity, meaning may become clear with the support of the therapist on your journey.

The Arts therapists work within the NHS, education, forensic settings, youth settings, those with disabilities or on the ASD spectrum, with the terminally ill as well as seeing people in private practice. The arts therapies are a safe yet very powerful way of working psychotherapeutically. No special talent is required to engage with the arts therapies-only a willingness to engage with the chosen art form.

Work can be individual or in small groups. You should contact the Health Professions Council to ensure your therapist is state registered. All therapists adhere to strict codes of conduct and practice and attend regular supervision. Dance Movement Therapy is also a powerful creative therapy but is not as yet state registered.
