Farmers' Markets
SHOPPERS have long enjoyed buying from street markets, but farmers' markets are different. Set up to allow local shoppers to buy local food direct from the producers, they are often, though not always, organised by local councils and the rules say that the stall-holders must have grown, reared or made the produce they sell.
Currently, the following markets are held across Devon:
Barnstaple - Fridays (within traditional Pannier market)
Bovey Tracey - alternate Saturdays
Bratton Fleming - fourth Saturday
Buckfastleigh - every Thursday
Combe Martin - second Saturday
Crediton - first Saturday
Cullompton - second Saturday
Exeter - last Wednesday
Exmouth - 2nd Wednesday
Honiton - third Thursday
Ilfracombe - second Sunday
Ivybridge - third Saturday
Kingsbridge - first Saturday
Okehampton - first and third Saturday
Ottery St Mary - first Friday
Plymouth - second Saturday
Seaton - third Friday
South Molton - fourth Saturday
Taunton - last Thursay of the month
Tavistock - second and fourth Saturday
Totnes - last Saturday
Tiverton - third Wednesday
Wrafton - second Saturday
The county's farmers' markets are supported by Devon County Council's Devon Food Links. Contact them at: 01392 382831 or visit www.devonfoodlinks.org.uk
