Local Food

The benefits of local food are many:

  • You know where its come from, how its been produced and, if you buy direct from the producer, you can even talk to them face-to-face;

  • Buying locally means fairer prices - for you and the producer;

  • It keeps local money in the local community, which benefits everyone;

  • Fresher produce promotes healthier eating;

  • Slaughtering and selling meat locally reduces chances of disease and improves welfare;

  • Buying fresh local food means it is 'in season' and what your body needs;

  • It cuts down on pollution caused by transporting food across the country, or even across the world (reducing 'food miles');

  • It keeps packaging to a minimum;

  • Shopping locally is a far more sociable activity, further strengthening the community;

  • It tastes better!
