Local Food
The benefits of local food are many:
- You know where its come from, how its been produced and, if you buy direct from the producer, you can even talk to them face-to-face;
Buying locally means fairer prices - for you and the producer;
- It keeps local money in the local community, which benefits everyone;
- Fresher produce promotes healthier eating;
- Slaughtering and selling meat locally reduces chances of disease and improves welfare;
- Buying fresh local food means it is 'in season' and what your body needs;
- It cuts down on pollution caused by transporting food across the country, or even across the world (reducing 'food miles');
- It keeps packaging to a minimum;
Shopping locally is a far more sociable activity, further strengthening the community;
- It tastes better!
