Space Clearing

The art of clearing space is an integral part of Shamanic practice, but it is not necessary to be a Shaman to be a Space Clearing Practitioner.
The term ‘Space Clearing’ is effectively a modern one, which describes the age old practice of restoring ‘appropriate’ order and changing energy in its myriad forms, from dark to light. It follows therefore, that it is a large and diverse subject, ranging from subtly adjusting the atmospheres in a space, clearing psychic debris, escorting confused spirits home to their rightful place, and at the other end of the scale, a full-on banishing and/or transmutation. Space clearing can be performed on and for the benefit of anything, for example land, buildings, people, objects, and animals as well as events in time and space – it is in fact a healing art, and as such demands a wide range of skill, experience, authority and knowledge, but above all integrity and compassion, from the Shaman or practitioner.
We are of course working purely with energy, chi, prana, that subtle universal life force that is in all things, animates all things, and unifies all things.

Why do we space clear?
Places record everything that happens within them. How does this happen?
Our houses are mostly made using cement, stones, bricks etc, materials that contain silicone and as we know, silicone has the capacity to record and store information; take for instance the silicone chip used in computing. But it is not just silicone that is capable of recording and storing feelings, events, imprints from disease etc, actually any ‘container’ is capable of collecting and storing subtle energy or etheric information to a greater or lesser degree. Strong emotions, the energy of different types of activities, personalities, significant events, thought patterns, as well as major trauma, disease and virus imprints can and do, leave their energetic traces. Imagine a house that has not been physically cleaned in years. With the build-up of dirt caused by daily life, there would be dust everywhere, cobwebs, clutter collecting in the corners, dirty windows and so on. Well a space that has never been space cleared is an etheric version of this, and this psychic debris directly affects ones life by impinging on the human energetic body and its various layers, infl uencing the emotions, mental clarity, physical health and general well being, and energetically causing the current occupant to repeat patterns and trends set (until cleared) by predecessors.
So we space clear in order to work and live from a clean sheet of paper, so to speak, and live our own lives more healthily, happily and clearly, without the reflected influence of what has gone before in our spaces.
Space Clearing is usually performed using various tools, such as incenses for pulling out negative energy from matter, drums and rattles for breaking up thick and dark energy, sound, to change the vibrational frequency of energy, movement, to influence the direction and flow of energy, opening vortices through which to direct and transmute dark to light, crystals to direct and change the quality of energy, and many other tools. However, if something or someone needs clearing while we’re out and about with no tools, the basic and most important tool we rely upon is our focussed intention and our body. An experienced practitioner or a Shaman can perform a clearing without tools.
The effects of having a space cleared are far-reaching and varied, from improved health, a feeling of peace, joy and sanctuary in the space, the ability to concentrate better and get things done, greater energy levels, the feeling of being able to move forwards positively, to the increased ability to attract positive things into our lives. A space can
also be “programmed” to feed you with whatever you request of the practitioner. An experienced practitioner will also clear disincarnate spirits or “ghosts”, entities, geopathic stress, and the memory and trauma stored within the land and surrounding area, working with ley lines and their subsidiaries and vortices. She or he will also get in touch with the Spirit of Place, and give the land spirits jobs to do which will be positive both for the Spirit and for the client.
There are so many benefits to having a space cleared. If you would like to learn how to perform space clearing for yourself, Jan Hannant and Roberta Shewen are running a 2-weekend course in April and May, in Ruishton, Taunton. Please contact: jan@shamanspath.co.uk or Roberta on 07758 671808
