SHAPING UP

By Wendy Knee CPCC
Are you trying to fit into your new bathing suit?
Do you want to lose a few extra pounds?
Are you tired of riding the weight loss roller coaster?
Wherever you are in your desire to get fit, these simple steps can help you fine tune your plan and ensure your success.
Realistic Goals:
What do you want to accomplish?
Do not set unrealistic goals?
Whilst you might want to lose 14 pounds in a month (1 stone), why not work towards losing five pounds. Be honest with yourself in this way you will be able to stay motivated and focused on achievable goals.
Visualise Your Success:
It is difficult in life to move forward without being able to see where you want to go.
Put up a picture of your old self as well as your ideal self.
In addition make a list of new goals that you would like to set for yourself. As you put these pictures and goals in place, look at them every day, seeing your goals has tremendous power, whether we are taking time to picture our goals in our mind or putting up visual reminders in our surroundings.
Get Support:
When you look back and remember the time that you tried and lost weight, only to slip back into the old habits.
Through life coaching it has been revealed that if your plans lack a support system, a partner or a cheerleader it is difficult to maintain.
Surround yourself with people who are encouraging and uplifting. Find a buddy with the same level of commitment and who is willing to work with you. Someone to take regular exercise with you.
Stick to your plan and work out regularly.
Find a New Activity:
Are you an outdoor person or an indoor person?
Have you always wanted to try ballroom dancing? Water polo?
The local community college or recreation centre is a great source for new activities.
Finding an activity you’ve always wanted to try can give you a new sense of energy and inspiration. It can help motivate you to stay with your goals by engaging in activity that is fresh and exciting.
Check Your Mental Attitude:
Sometimes you are already convinced that you are going to fail before you start.
Of course you won’t stick to your plan if you’ve already talked to yourself into believing that you can’t lose weight.
All the preparations won’t mean anything if you haven’t mentally tackled your fears. It is important to stay positive even when things get tough!
Everyone falls down and slips when on the journey to their ultimate goal. Failing and making progress are part of the process.
The important thing is to stay positive. Listen to what you say out loud.
Track those negative statements and reverse them into positives.
Make it fun:
I can hear the frustration and agony.
This happens when you discover that you forgot to include fun in your plan.
No fun immediately takes away your motivation and calls in failure.
Instead of dragging yourself to the gym each week, identify the activities that you really enjoy and integrate them into your fitness plan.
Celebrate Success:
Most people leave out the most important piece of the planned work, celebration
Write down rewards that you would like, both big and small. It doesn’t have to be a big thing but it is important to reward yourself.
Adding that incentive can give you the edge you need to stay on the track to success.
Successful weight management is built around changing your habits, regular exercise and healthy eating. It is that simple!
Wendy’s method of Life Coaching is a non-diet approach to eating. If you mix regular exercise with healthy eating habits you will lose weight. This is not rocket science.
