A Different Approach To Weight Loss
Weight Loss and Emotional Freedom Technique [EFT]

  • Are you obsessed with food [constantly monitoring what you are allowed to eat]?
  • Do you feel you are always on a diet, or denying yourself pleasure from the food you eat?
  • Are you always craving a certain food/s?
  • Is being overweight getting you down [do you say to yourself when I have lost this weight, then I can do what I really want to do [get on with my life]?
  • Do you reach for food when you feel emotional, stressed or bored?
  • Would you like to be free from the vicious cycle of dieting, loosing weight and then putting it back on, plus some?
  • Do you use weight as a protection, to feel invisible?
  • Who would you be without the weight?

I am willing to bet you know all there is to know about dieting; counting the calories; food combining; all the various fad diets out there; when you should eat and how much, often feeling deprived, fighting thoughts such as “if I have that packet of crisps now, I will eat less tonight, or I will start the diet proper tomorrow” or just feeling downright miserable, having to say no to what you really want.

What if, by coming from a different perspective of weight loss, you could radically transform aspects of your life so that you,
think and feel differently about food; So that you can get on with your life now; loose weight steadily as a by product of changing your thoughts around food; letting go of limiting beliefs and habitual patterns of behaviour; finding out about your personal cycle of self sabotage; being free to truly enjoy the food you are eating; feel that you are drawn to eating healthily and that you are treating yourself when you do; eliminate cravings; being free of the negative emotions that being overweight can produce such as despair, self hate, frustration, guilt, obsession, feeling helpless and out of control.

Excessive overeating or eating unhealthy food choices, in itself, is not the core problem; it is a symptom or strategy that we may adopt as the solution to a problem. The underlying cause for most people is emotional. Food satisfies an emotional need in the short term. When we reach for comforting food at times of stress, difficult circumstances and emotional unease, restlessness or anxiety we do so to dumb down, tranquillize these uncomfortable feelings. And when we try to diet, withdraw from our habits/patterns of eating, emotions that have been suppressed by food quickly come to the surface. Emotions such as anger, irritability, anxiety or fear come to the fore. We feel bad and that we are depriving ourselves.

Even though we know that the long term consequence of over-eating and being overweight is damaging our health we often choose to ignore this in favour of the apparent short term benefits.

Even though we desperately want to lose weight, in some way we are sabotaging ourselves. We may have limiting beliefs that block us, for example if we have low self esteem and don’t want to be visible or a fear of not knowing how to relate to others when slim, a limiting belief here may be “being overweight gives me the protection I need”. This is a limiting belief that clearly doesn’t serve us if we want to lose weight. By holding onto this belief part of our mind knows that there is more to gain in keeping the weight than by releasing it, therefore blocking us from reaching our goal. So when we add this to the emotional and physical effort that is required to change our patterns/habits around food, we are fighting an uphill battle, that is until we get our body on our side.

The meridian therapy EFT views our emotional reactions as the direct result of disturbances within the energy system. Traumatic memories and negative thoughts cause an energetic disturbance within the body. This disturbance is then experienced as a negative emotion and we become out of balance and emotional. EFT releases the energetic disruption so that the memories no longer hold the original emotional intensity, enabling negative feelings to be resolved quickly. When our energies are flowing smoothly we feel calm and peaceful.
